All the newest anchors, reporters on KPRC 2, ABC 13 and FOX 26 Houston

Several well-loved anchors and reporters have sadly recently announced their departures from Houston TV news this year. However, that means there’s also a lot of new faces to look forward to seeing on local broadcasts.

Among the latest TV news hires is reporter Shannon Ryan, who joined ABC 13 earlier this month. On Instagram, Ryan posted a photo of herself on the ABC 13 set, with the words, “Next Life.” The Pennsylvania State University grad previously worked as a crime reporter and multimedia journalist at the FOX-owned Austin station KTBC. She was also previously an anchor, producer, and multimedia journalist at WDVM in Washington, D.C.

KPRC 2 appears to have had a revolving door at the station as of late. Earlier this month, morning traffic anchor Anavid Reyes announced her last day at the station would be in April. In addition, March 1 was the last day for anchor/reporter Brandon Walker at Channel 2. In January, Courtney Zavala also called it quits after five years of co-hosting the KPRC 2 afternoon talk show Houston Life alongside Derrick Shore.

However, things are looking up for KPRC 2 now. In March, the station announced two promising new hires: reporters Candace Burns and Corley Peel.

On March 8, Burns confirmed she joined the Houston news team on social media. A Saginaw, Michigan native, Burns previously worked as an evening news anchor at WTVR CBS 6 in Richmond, Virginia. During her time there, she helped launch the station’s Problem Solvers, which earned her an Emmy. She also previously worked as an anchor at DWW50 WDCW News and at ABC 12 WJRT in Flint, Michigan.

In her short time at KPRC, Burns has already had her turn behind the news desk on March 16 alongside anchor Lisa Hernandez. She credits her husband Karon Bradley—a professional basketball player who she married in August 2022—as the reason for her move to the Bayou City. “My husband is a Houstonian through and through,” Burns told KPRC+ digital anchor Zachery Lashway earlier this month. “I’ve never met anyone who loves their hometown as much as him. So I’m here now with him, and I’m so happy.”

Meanwhile, Peel joins channel 2 after working at News4JAX WJXT in Jacksonville, Florida as a weekend morning anchor/reporter. She announced her hire on Twitter with a photo alongside Lashway, who is also an alum of News4Jax. “I have officially joined the KPRC2 team as a reporter!” she wrote. “I am so excited to meet you and I can’t wait to share your stories!”

A native Texan, Peel left News4Jax in August 2022 to move back home to spend time with her twin sister, Chelsea, who was battling Stage 4 lung cancer at the time. Unfortunately, Chelsea passed away later that month. A Texas Tech University grad, Peel previously worked for KJRH 2 in Tulsa Oklahoma and KSN Local News KSNF in Joplin, Missouri.

As we’ve previously covered, FOX 26 also recently got a new anchor this year: Caroline Collins, who is a bonafide TikTok star. Collins is a former morning anchor at KSEE 24 Sunrise News in Fresno, Calif. She recently solidified her 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. weeknight slot on FOX 26 Houston.
